The Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer netted thousands more dollars to support local families dealing with cancer.
Cruise for Cancer presented $135,000 to ten local, cancer-related organizations at a ceremony Wednesday.
The money was raised during last year’s motorcycle ride starting at Lambeau Field.
The check presentation took place at Vandervest Harley-Davidson.
Parins, the former Green Bay Packers security director, started the fundraiser after he was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2003.
Just before last year’s ride he said it was time to scale back and spend time with his wife, who is also a cancer survivor.
“We kind of live with this cancer issue. I wouldn’t want to do it over again, but I’ll tell you, I have met the finest, the greatest salt of the earth people because of cancer,” Parins said.
Over the past 12 years, Cruise for Cancer has raised more than $1 million for various organizations.
Parins says he met many of those organizations during his treatment at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.
